General description
The Colombian Journal of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition ( RMNC) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal edited by the Colombian Association of Clinical Nutrition.RMNC is registered with the National ISSN Center (International Standard Serial Number): 2145-9525 printed version, ISSN: 2248-6127 electronic version).
At the moment the Editorial Committee is working on national and international indexing;However, we highlight that in Colombia it is a unique magazine specialized in an area of health as important as nutrition.The URL of the magazine is https://www.nutriclinicacolombia.org/publicaciones/revista.html.
With this publication the Colombian Association of Clinical Nutrition aims disseminate updated scientific information on topics related to metabolism and clinical nutrition.Publicize the research that is generated in these areas of knowledge in the different disciplines and promote scientific exchange between the community interested in these specific topics at the national and international level.Being a scientific magazine, it is open to any scientific topic of interest.As long as they are related to some extent with the crucial aspects of nutrition.
The Colombian Journal of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition receives articles in Spanish and English in the following modalities:
Original articles, short articles, review articles, reflection articles and case reports;related to clinical nutrition in the disciplines of medicine, nutrition and dietetics, pharmacy and rehabilitation that contemplate aspects related to the evaluation and prevention of hospital malnutrition.As well as nutritional and metabolic effects in acute and chronic diseases.
The RMNC Editorial Committee is also interested in the management of obesity.In the nutritional and metabolic implications of bariatric surgeries and covers in all these areas the two major classifications by age of patients: pediatric nutrition and nutrition in adults.
Sections of the RMNC
The Colombian Journal of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition consists of the following sections to which they must be submitted the different types of articles.
This section of the RMNC receives original, short, review, reflection and case report articles related to human nutrition (not artificial) of interest to updating knowledge and application in the clinical area.

Biochemistry and metabolism.
Receive original, short, review, reflection and case report articles related to the knowledge of chemical structures of foods, nutrients and their metabolism.

Basic sciences applied to nutrition.
Receive original, short, review and reflection articles in fields such as biochemistry, physiology and genetics.Among others, that have an impact or are related to the area of knowledge in nutrition and metabolism, physiology, nutritional, metabolic and eating behavior disorders.

Controversies in nutrition.
Receive original, short, review, reflection and case report articles that generate or add elements discussion or help clarify a controversial topic related to clinical nutrition and nutritional support.
Receive original, short, review and reflection articles, where the ethical management of artificial nutritional support, development and anthropological evolution of nutrition, analysis of cases and ethical dilemmas.

Clinical management guidelines.A review is a succinct narration of a book, manual or conference and evaluates in a cordial and respectful manner virtues or shortcomings in their description;In addition, it specifies concerns that can be interpreted as suggestions or proposals.No more than three book or manual reviews will be published per issue of the journal, unlike conference reviews.
These reviews should not exceed three letter-size pages to 1 .5 space in Arial 12 font. The reviews are solely authored and although they have a free format, they must be coherent.
Receive original, short, review and reflection articles and reporting of cases related to dietary, physical activity and healthy lifestyle guidelines, based on the epidemiology of populations and the availability, quality, labeling and biosafety of food;including standards for production, control, registration and import of food and medical supplies used in basic nutrition, clinical and nutritional therapy.
Legally authorized translations of management guides, original articles , short, review, reflection and case reports, published in national and international journals that in the opinion of the Editorial Committee are of interest to RMNC readers.The Editorial Committee will be in charge of requesting the corresponding permissions and rights from the owners of the Copyright.
Receive original, short, review articles, reflection and report of cases related to the application of procedures and technological advances that have an impact on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect nutritional status.
Sub-sections of the RMNC
Each of the sections described above will publish articles related to the two large areas or subsections (in the case of the RMNC):
- Pediatric nutrition.This subsection receives original, short, review, reflection and case report articles from the population between 0 and 17.9 years of age.
- Nutrition in adults.This subsection receives original, short, review, reflection and case report articles from individuals 18 years of age and older.
Other sections
Additionally, the RMNC will publish editorials and letters addressed to the editor.
- Editorial.
Document written by the editor, a member of the Editorial Committee or a guest researcher on guidelines in the thematic domain of the journal.You must have references (maximum 10).
It will not be subject to peer review and its publication will depend on the use of professional and ethical language.Its publication must be endorsed by the Editorial Committee.

Letters to the Editor.
Free format document that presents critical, analytical or interpretive positions on the documents published in the journal, which in the opinion of the Editorial Committee constitute a contribution important to the discussion of the topic by the scientific community of reference.
It may or may not have references (maximum 10) and must be signed.
It will not be submitted to peer review and its publication will be mandatory as long as respectful and constructive criticism, professional and ethical language is used.
Characteristics of the publication
The Colombian Journal of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition (RMNC) hosts the typology of the National Bibliographic Index Publindex of Colciencias and submits the written for review by peers or referees.

The structure used contains the following aspects: Title (Spanish and English, no more than 18 words), Authors and their affiliation (full name, profession, academic level , institutional affiliation and email), Summary (Spanish and English), Keywords and source (Spanish and English), Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments 148 (not mandatory), Conflicts of interest (mandatory), Funding (mandatory) 149 and Bibliographic references (most of which must not be older than five 150 years of publication).
2.Short article
(Between 8 and 15 pages at 1.5 spaces, Arial 12, including bibliographical references, excluding tables and figures).
Document that presents the preliminary or partial results of an investigation, validation or standardization of techniques whose rapid dissemination is of great importance.
This article must have a maximum of 20 bibliographical references, most of which must not be more than five years old.
The structure contains the following aspects: Title (Spanish and English, no more than 18 words), Authors and their affiliation (Full name, profession, academic level and email), Summary (Spanish and English), Keywords and source (Spanish and English), Introduction, Methodology, Results and discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments (not mandatory), Conflicts of interest (mandatory), Financing (mandatory) and Bibliographic references (the majority of 164 which must not be more than five years old).
3.Review article
(Between 20 and 25 pages at 1.5 spaces, Arial 12, including bibliographical references, excluding tables and figures).
This type of article allows presentation in two modalities, the Invited Review and the Review.The first of these is commissioned by the Editorial Committee to an author with vast recognition and knowledge in a certain area covered by the RMNC.
The second is review work carried out by professionals interested in reviewing a certain topic even if they are not specialists in it.
In general terms, reviews analyze, systematize and integrate the results of published or unpublished research on a field of knowledge, to account for advances and prevailing trends.
The review will consist of 50 to 80 bibliographical references.
The structure used generally must contain the following parts: Title (Spanish and English, no more than 18 words), Authors and their affiliation (Full name, profession, academic level, institutional affiliation and email), Summary (Spanish and English), Keywords and source (Spanish and English), Introduction, Other aspects of the review (with titles in bold and subtitles in italics), Conclusions, Acknowledgments (no are mandatory), Conflicts of interest (mandatory), Funding (mandatory) and Bibliographic references (most of which must not be older than five years of publication).
4.Reflection article
(Between 8 and 12 pages at 1.5 spaces, Arial 12, including references, excluding tables and figures).
Document that presents results of completed research, whether the author’s own or not, from an analytical, interpretive or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, resorting to original sources.This type of document will consist of a maximum of 20 bibliographical references.
The structure used generally must contain the following parts: Title (Spanish and English, no more than 18 words), Authors and their affiliation (Full name, profession, academic level, institutional affiliation and email), Summary (Spanish and English), Keywords and source (Spanish and English), Introduction, Other aspects of the review (with titles in bold and subtitles in italics), Conclusions and Bibliographic references ( most of which should not be more than five years old.
5.It includes a brief and commented systematic review of the literature on analogous cases, as well as the results obtained.
These works must have a maximum of 30 references, most of which must be around 5 years from the date the article is submitted to the journal.
The structure contains the following aspects: Title (Spanish and English, no more than 18 words), Authors and their affiliation (Full name, profession, academic level, institutional affiliation and email), Summary (Spanish and English), Keywords and source (Spanish and English), Introduction, Methodology, Results and discussion (involves partial conclusions), Conclusions, Acknowledgments (not mandatory), Conflicts of interest, Funding and References (most of which must not be more than five years old from publication).
Criteria and processes for acceptance of works
The criteria for the publication of works include originality and validity of the data, grammatical structure and clarity of the writing, significance of the conclusions and importance of the work in the practice of the areas covered by the magazine.
The works must be unpublished and sent exclusively to the Colombian Journal of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition.For which they must fill out the F0001-RMNC form.
The writings must strictly and irrevocably conform to the RULES FOR AUTHORS (F0005-RMNC) and the rules of the “ International Committee of Medical Journal Editors” published in: “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Publication” and usually known as Vancouver standards.
Manuscripts that do not meet this requirement will not begin the peer evaluation process.
Each work must attach a letter from the main author where you express the approval of the co-authors since each author must have participated significantly in the work in such a way that they can assume intellectual responsibility.
In the case of including material taken from other sources, the authorizations that allow its publication in the Colombian Journal of Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition must be certified.
In this communication, the authors must report any conflict of interest related to sponsorship by companies, employment relationships or any type of interest other than academic.
If there is no conflict, it must be declared.
The material must be sent electronically to the Editors of the Journal (Editor , E-mail: editor-rmnc@nutriclínicacolombia.org) or (Associate Editor, E-mail: editorasociado-rmnc@nutriclínica.org);A code will be assigned for monitoring and it will be subjected to an initial review to determine if the topic is within the scope of the journal and to verify strict compliance with the presentation standards, as well as aspects of writing and form.
Additionally, the Editorial Committee will decide if the article is of interest to the magazine.
If it is of interest and meets the submission standards, the main author will be informed electronically of the assigned code, which will be used to know the evolution of the peer review process. .
The editors will select at least two peer reviewers per article, who once they accept the responsibility (ad honorem) will have 15 days to issue their observations in the format they choose. will be sent (F002-RMNC).
Once the reviewers' comments have been reviewed, the editors will anonymously send the comments to the authors for corrections, for which They will have between two and eight days to respond to the referees' observations.Which will be notified by letter to the authors indicating the reasons.
The corrections made by the authors will be sent again to the reviewers who will have up to 10 days to accept, reject or Suggest new corrections to the authors.If there are new corrections, the authors will have up to three days to send them to the editors.
Once the article is accepted, each author must sign the transfer of reproduction rights (format that will be sent by the editors) and return it to the editors within the following three days, to proceed with the correction of style and layout
Once layout is complete, the articles will be sent to the authors. who will have 48 hours to indicate formal corrections and minor errors (substantial changes will not be accepted; if necessary, the article may be sent again for peer review or rejected by the editors).
The authors are responsible for thoroughly reviewing the final document;The Editorial Committee is not responsible for errors that have not been detected by the authors.
Manuscript presentation
1.Manuscripts must be submitted in Word format (2003, 2007 or 2010 in Arial 12 points, 1.5 spaces, letter format, with 2.5 margins, the pages must be numbered (top right) consecutively. Lines should be numbered consecutively (left margin) to facilitate review and corrections; to do this, use the Word configuration system (these rules are an example of this aspect).
2. The first page of the document must include the section and subsection to which the author submits the article. The centered title (in bold) in Spanish and English (do not use sustained capital letters), name and profession of the authors. authors in the order of contribution to the work. The leader or person responsible for the publication (for the purpose of correspondence) will go to the end of the list and will indicate their role by accompanying their name with an asterisk above. The affiliation of each of them must appear below. the authors and their respective institutional email.
The affiliation will be written from smallest to largest and must include address, city and country.
3.The original, short articles and the case report must contain a structured summary (Introduction, Objective, Methodology, Results, Conclusion) of a maximum of 250 words in Spanish and English (not counting keywords).Include between three and six keywords taken from the Medical Subject Heading,
4.Review and reflection articles must contain a summary of a maximum of 250 words in Spanish and English.Include between three and six keywords taken from the Medical Subject Heading, MeSH, National Library of Medicine, available at: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh.
5.Articles in Spanish must be written in the third person passive voice and articles in English in the active voice.
Decimal numbers will be separated by commas in Spanish and by a period in English.For the units of measurement, the symbols of the International Metric System will be used.
6.Tables, charts, lists and statistics are called tables and must have Arabic numerals.According to the order of appearance and will be presented within the text, occupying a single page independent of the size (these pages do not count in the size of the manuscript) and must be duly cited in the text, before their appearance.
The corresponding title should be at the top of the table and the notes at the bottom.Tables must be inserted using Excel or the Word table editor; tables drawn in Word will not be accepted.
The table format to be used will be a table with a grid (without backgrounds or colors), available in the 407 Word tables tool.

They must include a title or legend at the bottom of the figure and sent on separate sheets in the article (these pages do not count in the size of the manuscript).These must be unpublished.
If not, they must be accompanied by the respective permission for their reproduction and the source must be made explicit (taken from: _____).Composite figures must be made in auxiliary programs (Paint, Photoshop, Powerpoint, etc.) and inserted into the text after being grouped in such a way that they do not lose their configuration in the editing process.
Be sure to use the appropriate type of shape and do not use unnecessary colors or shadows.
8.The formulas will be called Equations and must be numbered (to the left of the equation in square brackets).Consecutively, cited as (Equation 1) within the text and will be diagrammed using the Word equation editor.
Below the equation, the meaning of each of the variables included in the equations must be indicated.
9.References must be written in the Vancouver format. Undergraduate works will not be accepted as citations, only master’s works and doctoral theses.
Electronic documents without a date will not be accepted. search and address.Papers that do not refer to scientific articles will not be accepted.
It is important that authors consider the use of references that are no older than 5 years at the time of submission of the article, unless they are classics in the area.The timeliness of the references used by the authors will be strictly ensured.
